On the Rebound
It's Wednesday yet again (they come round so fast!) so here's my contribution this week to the Friday Fictioneers..
Below is my response to the current 100 word story challenge set by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. For her Friday Fictioneers each week, she encourages writers to reflect on a picture prompt.
On the Rebound
by Denarii Peters
“Meet me,” he wrote.
So, I did.
“By the big caterpillar. We can let our kids play while we talk.”
“Why not?” I wrote back.
Divorcees, we both have two children. But this is online dating, where everyone lies. He’ll be wrong somehow. Like all the others.
Another mistake. I’ve made so many: married too young; not so immature now. Comparing every man I meet to the one I so foolishly lost.
But then he lost me too. Does he miss me?
“I’ve missed you, Jen,” he says.
Two children playing. “Daddy! Look, it’s Daddy!”
“Missed you too,” I reply.
So, there we go. You can read (and maybe like or comment on) the other participants’ stories by clicking on this link. I know I will! Once again, I’d also like to extend my thanks those lovely fellow writers who liked and commented on my own pieces in earlier weeks.
I’m looking forward to the publication of my forthcoming debut novel The Reluctant Reaper, the first book in the Ross Ferris trilogy, in a few months. Sue, my editor signed off the manuscript last week and it’s now in the hands of my publisher for her to apply her own brand of magic to it. In the meantime, Sue and I are getting to grips with the second book, House of Wraiths.
And, of course, my short story collection Will You Walk into My Parlour, 27 tales of all things supernatural, (also published by Crystal Clear Books) is available from all sorts of places, including direct from the publisher here. Why not take a look at the sample on Amazon? (Link here) I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!
I’m just about to start my duties as a reader for the upcoming Hysteria 2025 writing competition. (Details are here.) So, from now until August I’m going to have my work cut out reading lots of other people’s stories, which is going to be fun!
I hope you liked today’s piece. Please feel free to comment below. And I do so love a like!

Dear Denarii,
I love it that they rebounded back to each other. :D
